The 2011 MSD Animal Health Connect and Equine Connect bursary awards is now in its 20th year, and the successful veterinary students candidates from each of the seven UK based vet schools have now been selected. The Connect bursary provides financial assistance to enable veterinary students to carry out a wide range of extra-curriculum research projects.
There are two categories of award available:
• The Connect Bursaries for research projects focusing on any species;
• A single Equine Connect Bursary for equine related projects.
"Once again the calibre of applicants for this year's Connect awards has been extremely impressive and we have received a large volume of applications covering a diverse range of projects," explains Stewart Hall, Corporate Marketing Manager for MSD Animal Health. “The quality of the applications has made the decision process extremely difficult, but the judging panel has chosen a selection of projects that cover an array of novel and inspiring research topics that I am sure will produce some interesting findings and results. We look forward to receiving the results of each project later in the year."
The successful nominees will each receive a grant of £1,000 towards the costs of their research project. The students will subsequently be required to produce a 1,500 word written report and to attend the MSD Animal Health Bursary Award Day in December where they will make a short presentation outlining the findings of their research.
Attendees to the open day will also have the chance to look behind the scenes at the MSD Animal Health research and development facilities at Milton Keynes and to learn more about the latest developments in veterinary medicine research.
The 2011 Connect bursaries have been awarded to the following students:
An overall winner will be selected based on the content of the written reports and presentations and they will be presented with the Connect Trophy and an additional cheque for £1,000.
