Youāre ready to welcome a new member of the family, and you canāt figure out exactly what dog supplies you need? Donāt worry! Weāve compiled a new dog checklist of the best dog supplies to help you and your newly adopted dog begin a happy and healthy journey together.

- Quality Food:Ā Purchase the best quality dog food that you can afford and slowly transition him from the puppy food to his adult long term food.
- Food and Water Bowls: Dishwasher-safe steel or anti-microbial food and water dishes are best; avoid using bowls with painted interiors.
- Pet Placemat:Ā A non-stick mat helps food and water bowls stay in place and limits the mess on your floor.
- Baby Gate/Fence:Ā This will help your dog safely explore their new home, without wandering into rooms/yards that are off-limits.
- Pet Bed:Ā Offer your dog a comfortable place to lie down and relax, make sure all bedding is safe and washable.
- Crate or Carrier:Ā Whether you use this for transporting your dog to the vet or house training a new puppy ensure that your dog has enough room to stand up and move around comfortably.
- Collar with ID Tag & Lead:Ā Your dog will need a comfortable collar, ID tag and at least two leads with secure clasps. If you can slip two fingers between the neck and collar, then it fits. You may want to talk to your vet about the benefits of microchipping your pup, as well; itās beneficial if your dog is ever lost or stolen. UK law requires all dogs to be microchipped before the age of 8 weeks and registered on a microchip registration database such as HomeAgain’s Microchip Registration Database.
- First Aid Supplies:Ā Create your own pet first aid kit or buy one at your local pet store.
- Lint rollers:Ā Handy if your dog sheds hair, these offer a quick fix for clothing, couches, and chairs.
- Training Pads/Poop Supplies:Ā Training pads are helpful during house training and poop bags are essential once your pup is trained to go outside.
- Training Toys & Treats:Ā Whether your newest family member is 6 months old or 6 years old, you can still teach them routines and commands and work on developing a stronger bond between the two of you. Make sure to pick up a couple of fun toys and different flavours of treats.
- Grooming Supplies:Ā Every breed has different grooming needs, but every dog needs shampoo, along with a toothbrush and paste, comb and nail clippers.
- Pet Insurance:Ā Unlike your car insurance, pet insurance covers breakdowns (illness) as well as accidents, meaning it is great value for money, and can save on unexpected outlays later on.
- Containers:Ā Keep your dogās food, treats, leads, grooming supplies and toys organised with baskets and buckets.
- Dog Care Manual:Ā Take the time to really learn about your dogās breed so that the two of you can navigate your new journey with ease and joy.
Good luck with yourĀ new dog or puppy! Weāre sure this is just the beginning of a beautiful, new friendship.
