Improved Online Ordering System for Toxoplasmosis Vaccine
MILTON KEYNES, UK, 3rd August 2018 – Sheep-interest vet practices now have access to an improved online ordering system for ewe toxoplasmosis vaccine, thanks to the launch of a new TOXOVAX® DIRECT webshop by MSD Animal Health.
Following significant investment to make the whole process of ordering short shelf life toxoplasmosis vaccine more streamlined, the new webshop allows practices to schedule multiple farmer orders and product dispatch dates.
“With our FlockCheck® diagnostic scheme consistently showing that the majority of sheep tested following abortion have been exposed to toxoplasmosis, demand for the TOXOVAX® vaccine is growing. Consequently, it’s important that we continue to invest in innovative computerised supply chain solutions to ensure customers receive their vaccine exactly when they need it. As TOXOVAX® has a shelf life of only 7-10 days it is manufactured to order and so establishing an improved web-based ordering and supply system is particularly important,” said senior product manager Sean Riches.
However, Mr Riches points out that the vaccination window for toxoplasmosis is actually quite wide, with non-pregnant ewes able to be vaccinated any time between four months and three weeks before going to the ram.
“We have therefore also developed a number of tools to help practices to communicate this wide window to their sheep farmer clients and encourage earlier vaccination, rather than wait until the last minute when demand for the vaccine is at its peak. In the long run we hope this will help to spread out the overall vaccine demand and therefore manage the supply to meet that demand,” he says.
