Yard Excellence Scheme launched by MSD Animal Health to help yards and vets collaborate for best practice
Pack designed to encourage excellent preventative healthcare policies
Milton Keynes, September 11, 2018 – MSD Animal Health, a division of Merck & Co., Inc., Kenilworth, N.J., USA, has launched its Yard Excellence Scheme to help yards and vets collaborate in developing best practice healthcare policies. Developed as part of the Keeping Britain’s Horses Healthy (KBHH) campaign, MSD Animal Health has created a pack, endorsed by BEVA and World Horse Welfare, to help yard owners and vets educate owners on why they should vaccinate and the benefits of preventative healthcare. The scheme also covers preventative healthcare and infectious disease outbreak protocols.
The Yard Excellence Scheme pack includes information on vaccination, weight management, worming and biosecurity, and gives yard owners the opportunity to put protocols in place across a range of preventative health areas. These protocols cover worming, vaccination and managing new arrivals. There are also additional resources to promote the Scheme within the yard such as yard posters, a horse owner checklist, horse records and responsible horse owner booklets. All the yards that develop and implement appropriate protocols, in collaboration with their vet, will achieve the KBHH Yard Excellence Scheme Standard and will be promoted on the KBHH Facebook page (@keepinghorseshealthy). Yards can also promote their achievement via social media and on their website.
